Void, 2004
Void was a peripatetic performance (wearing two video cameras) through the streets of Dublin, Ireland for four days, retracing the sites that the characters encountered in chapter 10, "Wandering Rocks" in Ulysses during the 2004 ReJoyce Festival. Beginning at 2:55 pm, the time described in chapter 10, each day I walked from Mountjoy Square to the intersection of Lower Mount Street and Lansdowne Road. Walking in this unfamiliar city, I metaphorically represented Mr. Bloom, who wandered through Dublin without a homeland, caught between a political and religious dichotomy. Recording the same route for four consecutive days shows the similitude of daily life. The walk becomes a study into psychogeography, where the geographic features of a city negotiate the individuals habits and patterns.
