Intellectual Economy, 2002
Intellectual Economy displays me busting my head through a wall. From the two-channel video, 5" x 7" video stills capture forty-nine frames representing the monotony of the act. The selection of which stills to show was purely a mathematical calculation. This entire process was very Sol LeWitt inspired where I completed the algorithm. Conveying a metaphor for the thought process of creating art, the front side view of the rupturing wall echoes the process of birth and challenges the notions of illusionistic space. Breaking through the wall from one side to the other illustrates that art is not easy. Once the wall breaks, the art product takes form illustrating the construction and deconstruction of the art process.
