Across the Dotted Line, 2010

Is time linear? How is time experienced? How is time witnessed? I hop across a row of individual hay bales wrapped in white plastic. These stark white plastic forms situated in a lush green landscape, at dusk, emphasize the formal structures inherent in the creative process. Not only is there an obvious art historical connection to Monet’s hay bales and his Post-Impressionistic way of seeing, but there is also a connection to theories surrounding the flow of time. I hop across the line to emphasize the movement of my body in space and the perceptual phenomena of the event. Slowing the time of the video down at the point where I hop between the center hay bales highlights the "special relativity". The interest is the experience of the time throughout the event. Landing on the next hay bale, the video returns to normal speed and I continue until I reach the end.
